Kyocera 7135 review
Product Review
The Kyocera 7135 combines phone features with the power of a Palm OS-powered PDA. Built with a Motorola Dragonball VZ33MHz processor, it's a fully loaded wireless communication solution; a cell phone, a PDA and an entertainment center all in one.
Design
The 7135 is a flip phone on steroids. The 160 x 160 color screen dominates the top portion of the phone, while a handwriting entry area and keypad are housed in the unit's lower clamshell. The top right side of the unit houses the antenna while data and charging ports are housed on the unit's bottom edge. A stereo headphone jack is included on the left side and an SD memory expansion card slot is contained in the battery compartment. A stylus can be stowed in the unit, as well.
Calling Features
The Kyocera 7135 has all the latest calling features folks have come to expect. The built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. Voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. There's also a ringer ID for identifying incoming calls.
Messaging and Internet
The Kyocera 7135 is designed as a complete solution for people who want to bring their office with them. The unit's 16 MB of internal memory comes loaded with Palm OS version 4.1, which features complete calendar, contacts, to-do list, and web browser functionality. The OS also features Eudora mail for on-the-go email writing and receiving. Text and picture messaging are also supported. Many additional applications are available for the Palm OS, including instant messaging, word processing and spreadsheets. All of these can be installed on the 7135. Memory expansion is possible via SD expansion cards. Voice memo capability, as well as Palm's legendary handwriting recognition functionality are also built-in. The phone ships with PC syncing software for synchronization with desktop PC applications such as Outlook (USB, serial and infrared data syncing are supported).
Imaging and Entertainment
The 7135 includes an MP3 player application that delivers stereo sound via the headphone jack. Load up your favorite tunes and enjoy. There's also a media player that plays a wide variety of video media formats (.mov, .avi, .aud, .wmf). There are games aplenty for the Palm OS platform, all of which are installable on the 7135.
